Georgia Tech’s mission statement commits us to developing leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. Addressing the complex problems of tomorrow requires the ability to define issues from multiple perspectives while also developing a sense of one’s own professional identity in order to affect change. Georgia Tech's 2025 Quality Enhancement Plan (“QEP”): Leaders in Progress and Service will deliver an educational program, available to all undergraduates, that is intentionally designed for transformative impact: to prepare our students to exemplify the leaders envisioned in our mission and motto.

Foundational Course

In the foundational course, students will learn how they can uniquely contribute to tackling the world’s most challenging issues. Students will practice defining problems from diverse perspectives while they explore their professional values. As part of this course, students will get a first look at “beyond-the-classroom" learning opportunities in their discipline. Some Schools and Colleges may choose to develop a new course or align an existing course with the QEP foundational course. A central version of the foundational course, GT2030: Progress and Service Forum, will also be offered by the Office of Undergraduate Education.

Immersive Learning

Immersive learning opportunities -- undergraduate research, study abroad, internships, and more -- lie at the intersection of experiential learning and High-Impact Practices. Through these signature GT experiences, students enhance their understanding of self as related to their field of interest. Deep reflection activities help students make meaning from their immersive experiences while they connect these activities to their academic pathways and future profession. Many existing learning activities will qualify as immersive learning. Students and faculty will be able to apply for other experiences to satisfy the immersive learning requirement using standard criteria.

Progress and Service Summit

In the culmination of the Leaders in Progress and Service educational program, students will reflect on their learning by planning and publicly presenting a panel discussion that demonstrates their ability to define complex societal problems and clarifies how their actions as professionals impact society. The student-led panels will bring together our student Leaders in Progress and Service, Georgia Tech faculty, and local, national, and international leaders working to address the world’s biggest problems. Keynote speakers and other events around our motto of Progress and Service will make the week-long summit a signature event at Georgia Tech benefiting students and faculty in the program and beyond.

Successful completion of all three components will lead to an Institutional recognition of student achievement, which is proposed to be a graduation distinction as a Leader in Progress and Service, similar to graduating with academic honors.
